Andrew Taylor – Four Poems

Posted on June 20, 2025

Small Glass Pouring Light

Shake the frost free
wide river view to shore
road noise anticipation
of the carrier’s cart loaded
with news & print

Bright star above the bay
beautiful & simple
endlessly revealing

Arctic Drone

Winter keeper
             on watch
the map line of eternal ice

Hot Soup Time Machine

From afar welcoming window candle lit
with the dark drops the dew loyalty of
French oak that leaves a sweetness
to hang in the valley

Apple offers a different hue combustion
rates matter like the stokers on ships
the right mix helps entertainment like
the shipping of books

it’s in the detail view the flame picture
patterns matter Thomas’s breath
walking the terrace an ambient
background a view to the bay

bells fall silent trace the route worn
thin steps there’s life in the handrails
initials carved TDQ WJT centuries
apart cast aside after hours

the log will cease to flame it will
glow but patterning will be minimal
look to the surface breaking there’ll
be enough of interest

split cover magazine will house secrets
still the bread bags hang the simple
four ingredients the lamp lit sanctuary
simplicity like salt on eggs

Burnt Crusts

What could be more pleasant?
the restorative nature of the air

& the view to the open sea

There’s a half hour queue
the full breakfast is a sight

to behold

the backyard eggs a special
treat from the lanes

the laundry is returned
in brown paper

canteen to the shore
bound for places unknown
